Greatwood School is set on the outskirts of Skipton in lovely surroundings with all round countryside views.
We have large, outdoor play spaces, including three playgrounds, for Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Foundation Stage. These are surrounded by expansive grassed areas, giving children the freedom to enjoy sport, play and learning in a pleasant outdoor environment. We have a lovely garden area where we keep 3 hens!
Come and look at our outdoor space – you are sure to be impressed!
Outdoor play is a very important part of our Foundation Stage teaching. We have free-flow play in Nursery and Reception. These provide an excellent opportunity for learning.
We have a large hall, used for PE, lunchtimes, school assemblies and community events.
There is a purpose built library used by all the children, and a fully equipped ICT suite, which enables us to give a high priority to computer skills. Recently, we have purchased a class set of laptops enabling the children to use ICT more freely in the classroom.
We have a very well organised library which the children may borrow books from.
The school uniform at Greatwood consists of a white shirt or polo shirt, grey/black skirt, pinafore or grey/black trousers and navy sweatshirt or cardigan. In addition girls may wear a blue and white check dress during the summer. These can all be bought locally or from chain stores.
Nursery uniform is as above, but with a green sweatshirt or cardigan.
Children will also need a pair of navy or black shorts, a plain white T-shirt and a pair of pumps for P.E. sessions. These should be kept in a small P.E. bag. In Key Stage One and Two children may need to bring a warm sweater or track suit for outdoor games.
Please ensure all clothing is clearly marked with your child’s name. For safety reasons we ask that children should not wear jewellery at school and that earrings should be removed for P.E. and swimming sessions.

Attendance, Illness and Absence
· It is important for continued learning that children have as few days away from school as possible.
· It is helpful if you could let school know on the first day of absence if your child is ill and will not be attending.
· If your child becomes ill whilst at school a member of staff will contact you.
· If your child has sickness/diarrhoea please keep him/her at home for 48 hours.
· Children often have minor accidents at school. If this occurs it will be recorded at school and parents will be informed.
· If your child needs to take medication whilst at school it is essential that a medical form is completed. These are available from the school office.
Children should not bring toys or valuables into school as these could be lost or broken and children become upset. This includes Mobile phones, games consoles and other electronic devices.
