Our Class

Thursday 5th March 2020. We all took turns to help making chocolate refrigerator buns for the Fairtrade Hall of Fame.

Wednesday 4th March 2020. This morning we had a lovely visit from Whitakers chocolate. They came in to tell us a bit about how chocolate is made and where the cocoa beans used to make chocolate come from. We also got to look at some cocoa beans, they smelled just like chocolate. After that we tried a chocolate and were able to ask them some questions. We really enjoyed having them visit us today.

Tuesday 3rd March 2020. We have had a lovely time visiting Skipton library. We enjoyed listening to 'Supertato! run veggies run' and 'Super Stan'. We then made our own superhero bookmarks and named them. After that we spent some time choosing books to borrow. We really enjoyed our time at the library.

Monday 2nd March 2020. In art we worked together to make a giant fairtrade chocolate bar. We used cut up pictures of fairtrade chocolate bars to make the fairtrade logo. We also drew lots of different things which you can make with chocolate and added them to our chocolate bar.

Wednesday 26th February 2020. In science we learned about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We used these to group animals by what they eat. We tried to think of as many different animals as we could so that we could work together to sort them.

Tuesday 25th February 2020. In PE we worked to develop our balance. We moved around the hall finding spaces. We tried balancing beanbags first on our heads, then our chests and backs. We then tried to move with a beanbag balanced on our leg. This was tricky so we had to try different ways of moving to find the best way.

Thursday 13th February 2020. We performed our version of 'Handa's surprise', a story which we read in class. We all learned our lines and practiced our song with actions. We really enjoyed our performance assembly, showing our parents and the other classes our hard work.

Thursday 30th January 2020. In English we completed a 'hot seat' activity. We took turns to imagine we were Sunny the meerkat from our book 'Meerkat mail'. We then asked questions about his favourite things to do and life in Africa. This was a tricky activity, but we enjoyed thinking of questions to ask Sunny and trying to think about how he would answer.

Monday 20th January 2020. In art we explored different African masks learning how they are made and what they are used for. We then designed our own masks inspired by the masks we had seen.

Monday 13th January 2020. In art we started creating headdresses and necklaces inspired by African jewelry . We used African animal patterns for ideas.

Wednesday 18th December 2019. In class we practiced our Christmas song 'we wish you a merry Christmas'. We sang and performed actions ready for 'Christmas at Greatwood'.

Monday 16th December 2019. Reverend Ruth visited us to talk about advent and Christmas. She shared the meaning behind each week in advent and told us the meaning behind advent wreaths.

Monday 16th December 2019. In Maths we used ten frames and counters to help us complete subtraction number sentences. We worked together to help each other to find the answers.

Tuesday 10th December 2019. We sat together on the carpet and sang some Christmas songs. We wore some festive headbands and all joined in. We sang 'Frosty the snowman', 'I wish it could be Christmas every day' and lots of other songs.

Friday 6th December 2019. In PE we continued to bring together what we have learned so far in our gymnastics topic. We tried to think of as many different ways of balancing, jumping and rolling as we could.

Tuesday 26th November 2019. In PE we carried on our gymnastics topic. We balanced, jumped and moved across the different apparatus. We also used the ropes and ladder, we climbed and supported each other to try and reach as high as we could. Miss Hogarth visited us and helped teach us how to forward roll and cartwheel. We had a lovely time working together during our lesson.

Friday 22nd November 2019. In maths this week we have been learning about different shapes. Today we completed several 2D shape activities. We worked to name and sort 2D shapes, we used play-dough and small sticks to build 2D shapes and we made rockets using different shapes.

Thursday 14th November 2019. In Art and English we have been working to follow a set instructions to make 3D rocket pictures. We painted the background and decorated the different parts of the rocket. We then stuck down our rockets with the help of an adult.

Tuesday 12th November 2019. This morning Miss Hogarth came to join us for PE. She helped us with our gymnastics skills. We have been balancing on different apparatus and learning new jumps. We had lots of fun and here are some pictures from our lesson.

Friday 25th October 2019. Year 1 Visit to Tesco. We had a lovely time visiting the Tesco supermarket in Skipton. Half of us walked there and we met up at the shop with those who took the minibus. We looked at all the different fruit they sell and picked out our fruit to make our fruit kebabs. Then we spent time at school making and eating our fruit kebabs. We also had time to try some new fruit including pineapple, mango and pomegranate. We all tried the new fruits, even if we weren't sure we would like them.

Thursday 26th September 2019. Today we have carried on with our art. We have been mixing colours with white to create different shades of blue for the sky or the sea. After this we mixed primary colours to paint grass or the beach.

Wednesday 25th September 2019. Today we had our first daily mile session as a whole class. We went out to the track and spent 15 minutes walking and running as many laps as we could.

Tuesday 24th September 2019. In PE today we worked to explore different ways of moving around and then practiced our throwing and catching skills.

Thursday 19th September 2019. Welcome to Year One. The children have been hard at work in our first three weeks. We have settled into our classroom and have been exploring all of our different learning areas. Here are a selection of pictures which show some of our different activities and work. We have been at work in our construction area building with different materials. We have been practicing our writing, making patterns and art and getting active in our PE lessons. These pictures are a sample of the work we have been completing so far. Please have a look through to see us hard at work.
