Welcome Back!

Hello everyone and welcome back! I hope you have all had a lovely summer holiday (despite the disappointing weather) and that you and your child are looking forward to the year ahead. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and I have no doubt that we are going to have an amazing year. The children have all come back to school with amazing attitudes and are looking super smart in their new uniforms.

Thank you to all those families that completed the collection form for the office before the end of term, letting the office staff know your child’s hometime arrangements. If you haven’t already done so, please can you ensure that you let the office know  who has permission to collect your child ASAP. Please note, we cannot allow your child to go home alone/ with an adult not on the collection list without permission.

This half term our Topic is ‘Protecting the Environment’. The children will learn more about climate change, how the population of animals is deteriorating and about sustainable materials. They will learn more about the importance of change, and what the world may look like if this generation doesn’t alter their ways.

In Maths our focus will be on place value, working with numbers up to 10,000,000. We will also be recapping and learning new methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Our English lessons for the next three weeks are focusing on our class text ‘The Promise’, which is about a girl who changes her ways and tries to save the environment by planting lots of trees and plants. The children will then use this book as a reference to support them in writing their own poems about the environment.

In Art, year 6 will be developing their collage skills and will have the opportunity to create their own collage  art work on the environment.

Our PSHE lessons are focusing on ‘Being me in my World’; these sessions will encourage the children to set ambitious goals for themselves, both now and in the future.
